Vail, CO 81657 3:00 PM, Thursday September 10, 2009 Minutes Meeting was opened by Chairperson Lynn Fritzlen at 3:00 pm Absent: Kathy Langenwalter Kyle Webb acted in Kathy Langenwalters’ place as a voting member. Review and acceptance of meeting minutes of Thursday, July 16, 2009 and August 13, 2009 Upon review of the minutes with some minor typographical changes to the minutes for July 16th and August 13th were motioned on by Mr. Mueller and seconded by Rich Seth. Vote was unanimous Review of items brought up at the Public Hearing on September 8th Two items of discussion were the boulder wall requirement and the sprinkler requirement for new single family homes. After extensive discussion on the firewall it was proposed that the proposed amendment requiring a structural engineer design walls over four feet will remain in the proposed ordinance. A member of the public was present to appeal this provision due to it being too restrictive. Mark Mueller explained that this provision is currently required by the town engineer and it is creating consistency with the building code. The second item of the sprinklers was addressed as part of the next item. Proposed matrix of sprinklers systems on existing homes and additions. Presentation by Deputy Chief Mike McGee Chief McGee presented the matrix the board, which was part of the approval of the sprinkler requirements for the 2009 Building codes. Upon review of the matrix and discussion by the members the board member Rich Seth called for a vote to accept the matrix and that the 2009 Building Code amendments be changed to delete the criteria for new single family homes and town homes to be sprinkler and utilize the matrix on all new single family home/ town home construction not just existing construction. Rich Seth made the motion and Mark Mueller seconded. Vote was: 4 for the motion One against Lynn Fritzlen was the dissenting vote Building/Fire code ordinance first reading at the Town Council meeting on September 15th. The first reading was changed to October 6th to allow for a work session on the 15th to address possible changes to the ordinance ICC class on the IBC and the IFC to be held on October 9th in the Town Council chambers. The cost of this seminar is $50.00 with the AIA as cosponsor. This will allow for continuing education units to be achieved. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for local professionals to obtain the knowledge of the changes to the building codes at a convenient an economical location.
