March 2, 2009
Planner: Warren Campbell
The information contained in this file pertains to the
discussion which occurred regarding the collocation of a
transit center and employee housing on the North Day Lot.
After several design iterations and multiple public reviews it
was determined that the Town did not want to pursue
anything more than skier drop-off and employee housing on
the site, both of which were obligation of Vail resorts from
the Arabelle project. These items are included with the
approved plans for the North Day Lot simply to serve as a
history for future inquiries regarding the North Day Lot.

including a structural feasibility
study by SA Miro.
3A-3 George spoke about the Master Plan
Amendment by the Vail Town Council.
• Council directed the use of the

• This plan incorporated a shift of the
hammerhead bus stop to the north
similar to that of Option 5 to allow
increased relief from Landmark and
a potential enclosure along the
southside of the transit center.
• The above was accomplished by
flipping the circulation cores for the
building above. This allows the skier
drop-off parking to shift to the
northwest tucking under the berm.
• Additional clarification of the
existing utility locations is needed
to evaluate the impact of this
option along the northside.
• This option increased the distance
from the nearest bus to the
property line from 14'-3" to 20'-
11 ". This could allow all pedestrian
circulation to be under the podium
above.
• Stan raised a general concern of any
additional cost that may come out
of these options over the $19
million proposed.
3A-5 Any modifications to the stair and elevator
cores for the building above will need to be
approved by VRDC.
3A-6 Will presented the edge condition sketches
for the various options.
• Section studies were presented for
Option A, A Alternate, and 5.
• These sketches showed different
solutions for pedestrian access and
potential screening and snow
retaining strategies along the
southside of the transit level.
Including Use by Right and Variance
options.
3A-7 General studies to be addressed in near
future once an Option is decided upon:
• Evaluate ventilation strategies for
the transit level, especially if an
enclosed south wall is chosen, and
the influence of this strategy as it
pertains to an environmental
review.
• Evaluate all electrical, mechanical,
