11. Multi-family housing can be designed in ways that emphasize either community or privacy. Units that are grouped around
and open to common spaces enhance the sense of neighborhood and reinforce the community character. Glazing (i.e.
windows) that is oriented to these spaces creates a transparency and awareness of neighborhood activities. On the other
hand, units that orient away from common spaces and that are visually isolated from one another emphasize privacy. Should
community or privacy take precedence in the design of the Chamonix housing?
