Hey Tony,
The Town of Vail has reviewed the design review application for a new roof element to cover the gas meter at
the Lion Square Lodge North building. The following is a summary of the comments from that review:
- A structural engineer's letter verifying that the proposed roof can withstand snow and ice fall from the upper
stories of the building must be submitted.
- Written approval for the proposed roof from the gas utility company must be submitted.
- Details for how the gas meter and associated piping will be visually screened must be submitted.

I spoke to Xcel ref the utility standards for the "shed roof' over the proposed gas meter location.
It appears there are two issues that need to be resolved.
1. The shed roof needs to be able to deflect 200 Ibs of snow/ice falling 60 ft. Per the DRT meeting last Wednesday, the
Town needs to see some structural calc's and an engineers stamp.
2. The vent from the meter diaphragm must be a minimum of 6 ft from any operable door or window. The vent may be
pipe to a remote location but it must be oriented to allow escape of a lighter than air gas and be protected from being
clogged by snow, ice or other debris.

Good Afternoon Tony,
I am following up on the revision that was submitted to the Town of Vail
and us on August 26, 2009. We had spoke about this back in early
September. A scanned copy of the transmittal letters has been attached
to the email for your use. This submittal was a combination of multiple
plan sheet changes that were not collated into one complete set of
documents. Both the Town's Fire Department and us (SAFEbuilt)
discontinued our review and expressed this back to Viele Construction.
The Fire Department denied the revision on 9/10/09 and we denied the
revision on 9/11/09.
I thought the architect of record would send additional information as a
re-submittal. Is this still in process? Or have I missed something?
We wanted to follow up just to make sure.
