METHODOLOGY AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The loads were computed by applying a 3-component, stochastic model of snow avalanche motion to the Vail Meadows avalanche path, assuming that avalanche stopped as determined in previous studies, and computing normal pressure and flow thickness distributions at the window location (Figures 2 and 3). The normal pressures during the three time intervals of maximum flow thickness (intervals 3, 4, and 5) were averaged (average = 223 psfl to compute normal pressure on a flat surface oriented at right angles to the flow. This pressure was then reduced to account for the 60'deflection angle to the flow direction (correction factor = 0.75). Figures 2 and 3 provide the avalanche-dynamics data used.
