Peterman Asbcstos Testing Project Design, and Consulting INTRODUCTION: On July l5th, 2004, 6 inspection/sunrey was conducted and 9 bulk samples were collected from the: Resideuce 796 Forrest Road Vail, CO. The purpose of tbe inspection/sunreywas to locatc and sample suspected asbestos containing materials Oat might be present in the Residence that is planned for demolition 16 inspcction was made, and the samples were collested by John R Peterman, an A.H.E.R.A. and State of Colorado Certificd Asbestos Inspector. Great care was talcen during the inspection and sampling to be as accurate as possible. It should be noted that mi;imd damage was done to the existing building strrctures during tho inspection so there is no documentation for r rseen conditions or stored items. All samples were anal5zed by DCM Sciencc Lab in Wlcafiage, CO. This laboratory is deemed "Proficient" in thc E.P.A.Qrulity Assurance (QA) program for the dctcrmination of asbcstos in bulk marerials, md is accrcdited by the American Hygiene Association (AIIA). SAMPLING PROIOCOL: A random sampling scheme was uscd to samplc thc srspcot md€risls that were discovered. If druing any future demolition or renovation work, suspect material is discovcrcd .qet hasn't bee,n sarrpled and would be disnrbed, work should be balted until the materid hrs been tested. RENOVATION AREA DESCRIPTION: The two'story residence at796 Forrest Road is planaed for demolition. The upstairs, of this rcsidence, is the main house; with an aparbnent and mechanical room located in the lower level. The orterior walls are wood end fircco on a concrste foundation. The roof is covercdwithwood shake shingles. Tbe interior rvalls srs shegfrock with a light texture, and the oeilings are sbeetrocl< like the walls. CONCLUSIONS & RE COMMEITTDATIONS: Laboratory analysis oftbe bulk samples indicate that Asbcstos was detected in trvo out of firlre composite shectrock samplcs. Howevcr, the Asbestos o@tent is less rhan the Regutatory Limit ( Greater thsn lYo Asbestos ) . the Asbestos content, of the positive samplcs, was verifiedbythe requir€d Point Count Analysis. The general structural framing was approximately 80% complete at the time of the visit. The following items were noted. ROOF FRAMING ,/ Sheet 54 1/ On side A of the duplex, the hanger previously labelled as "E" on the mnnection schedule (see sheet Sl) was changed I to a 3/4" rlirmeter thru-bolt at the dormer ridge. A trash enclosure was added to the plan on side B of the duplex. Sheet SK2 shows the roof framing required for this addition. This lower roof ftaming is now shown on the main floor plan to differentiate between the upper and lower roofs. On side B of the duplex, the overhang of the existing upper west roof was extended to a length of two feet. To support this, a (2)-2x12 beam has been added to the structure using Timberlok fasteners as shown on sheet SKg. / Sheet S3 & s4 . / On side A of the duplex, the new tower wind.g\rv was removed. The additional blocking and nailing as noted on sheet S4 Y are no longer required. The purpose of our site visits, was to obscrve the soils exposed in the foun&tion excavation, and compare them with the findings and reconrnendations of a Soils and Foundation Investigation by Inter-Mountaia Engineering, lnc., Project No. 906 I 0G, dated November, I 990. The excavation for the proposed addition consisted oftwo areas on the north side ofthe existing residcnce. The cuts rangcd tom about 8-9 fcet. The soil exposed at thc bottom of the excavation was consistent with the findings ofthe above-named soil's report. It consisted of reddish brown, sandy gravel with cobbles and boulders. There were no soft spots reported. Ihe soil exposed in the lotmdation excavation is suitable for the re.commended biaring capacity of 3000psl. The heat loss forthe East side ofthe duplex is approximately I15,200 Btuh and the heat loss for the West side is approximately 97 ,34O Btuh. Calculations are based on 70"F interior temperature (50"F at the garage) and -20" exterior design temperature. This is a new duplex that will receive a central boiler plant to accommodate the project €n€rgy loads for each half. There are twelve (12) zones of radiant floor heat on the East side and nine (9) zones of radiant floor heat on the West side. There will be tcro boil€rs rated at 400,000 Btuh input and 450,000 Btuh input serving the radiant floor heat, provide en€rgy for domestic hot water p,roduction, and provide energy for snowmelt. There will be one 120 gdlon storage tank with internal heat exchanger for each side for domestic hot wder with spatial provisions for a future 120 gallon tank for each side. Refer to attached drawing for flue and combustion air sizing. I have included heat loss calculations along with a mechanical permit application.
