The A,/C has approved your deck & hot tub request zubject to the following conditions:
1. The new tree shall be an evergreen tree at l€ast 6 feet high (from the top ofthe root ball).
2. You will be resportsible fot eflsuring that the new tree survives for I year from the date ofplanting.
3. The new tree shall be planted in the empty triangular planter about l0'northeast of the trash shed,
4. Application for appropriate permits from the TOV shall be made, approval received, and copies sent to me before
construction begins. Appropriate setbacks from our property line and any firefighting access requirements will be your
responsibility to determine and meet.
5. No portion of limbs of the remaining pine tree may be trimmed that do not overhang the actual deck.
6. The responsibility for all future maintenance ofthe deck and hot tub shall be the owner's.
7. In all other aspects, the project shall be constructed in accordance with your plans as attached.
8. Contractor parking shall be inaccordance with the nrles and regulations (see Jim Poppleton ifyou have any questions)
9. No construction debris may be placed in VPTH dumpsters

A/C folks,
Kim has given us very helpful documentation (below and attached) for her proposal. Chuck and I have walked the site
wr'th her, and feel that the deck (as spec'd in the drawings) will not unduly impede access to the rear of her building.
Other issues:
l. The location ofthe new tree: I'd recommend that it be placed in the vacant triangular tree well (whose original tenant
has departed).
2. Type of new tree. anybody have any thoughts (deciduous, evergreen, specific brand', minimum height...)?
3. Should we specify some limit on the amount of trimming that my be done to the remaining pine tree (such as only the
portion of limbs that extends over the proposed deck surface).
4. The BOD voted to require that the A,/C be provided with copies of necessary building permits b€fore construction
begins (my interpretation of TOVs requirements - thanks to the ordinance the TOV sent me - says this needs a permit if
the deck will be more than 30" above grade and will require plumbing and electrical work.).
5. The responsibitty for all future maintenance shall be the owne/s.
Please send me your thoughts and I'll consolidate them for a vote (she would appreciate a quick answer).

Everyone,
At the request of Jim Keamey an elevation drawling is attached showing the placement of the hot tub on the
deck. Thanks Chuck. Also, the front of the deck will be 6 - 8 inches off the ground, and gradually getting
hire towards the back of the deck, to about 2 112 to 3 feet of the ground to accommodate the grade. There
will be six pylons support the deck to the various heights.
I will agree to place another tree at VP in replacement of the tree being removed. There have been two
suggestions on placement.

1 . 10 feet on the diagonal from the east side of the dumpster up the hill to the east of my unit. This would
be in line with the north/east end of my unit. There other suggestion was to plec€ the tree in the triangle
box also on the €ast side of the my unit. Please advise as to the approved location. lf you have specific
other specifications for the tree replacement, please advise.

To the members of the Architecture Committee:
I am submifting the following Exterior Change Request for approval.
Request to build redwood deck for the placement of a hottub on the North east side of Unit 31. Attached
is the spec drawling of the deck. The deck will not significantly restfic{ accBss to buildings (1.e. decks
shall not extend so far as to impede access to the rear of a building).
ln order to place the dgck in the proper position, thg tree ctosest to the retaining wall needs to be
removed. The removal of this tree, should be an improvement to the VP property, since at the present
time, this tree is almost completely laying on the ground and in the process of dying. lwould suggest that
VP be responsible for the removal, but I am willing to discuss options.
I have also attached a picture of the hottub that will be placed on the deck. The tub is 6'2" x 7'3" and the
proposed deck is 6'4" x 8'0".
I am in Vail until Monday moming, August 27th, since I know some of you are in town for the Annual
meeting, maybe we can do the visual review on Sat or Sun.
One last request, could I get an expeditB on this request. I am working with a group ot friends on a
multiple purchase discount, and so I need to know soon, il this will work. I really appreciate your
cooperation.

17. The vent termination location is restricted as
follows:
a. Minimum twelve (12) inches above grade plus
normally expected snow accumulation lwel, or
seven (7) feet above grade if located adjacent to
public walkway. Do not install over public
walkway where tocal experience indicates
appliance flue gas vapor or condensate creates a
nuisance or hazard.
b. Minimum three (3) fe€t sbove any forced air
inlet located within ten (10) feet.
c. Direct Vent ' Minimum one (l) foot belou one
( I ) foot horizontally from' or one ( I ) foot above
any door, window, or gravity air inlet'
Power Vent ' Minimum four (4) feet below' four
(4) feet honzontally from' or four (4) feet above
any door, window, or gavity air inlet'
d. Minimum four (4) feet horizontally from electric
meters, gas rneters, rcgulators, and relid valves'
This distance may be reduced if equipment is
protected from danrage due to con&nsation or
vapor by enclozure, overhangs' etc'

Vent PiPing -
l. This boiler is supplied with components as standard
equipment for installation of the separate horizontal
venting system.
Do not exceed maximum vent/arr intake lengths'
Refer to Table 4.
iecommended horizontal insta ation consists of
vcnt being sloped down % inch per foot toward
boiler. See Figure 4.
4. Use appropriate designed thimbles when passing
U"ouii .6.U*tiUle walls (thimble use optional for
nonco-mbustible wals). I$ert thimble through wall
from outside. Seclre outside flange to wall with
natls or screws, and seal ID, OD and vent holes
with sealant material. Insull inside flange to inside
wall, secure with nails or screws, and seal with
sealant material.
5. For noncombustible wall application when thimble
is not used, sizr opening such that bell with locking
band anached cannot Pass through'
6. Join vent terminal to vent pipe' Cut vent pipe such
that vent terminal is located between six (6) inches
and twenty-four (24) inches from nall when joined
to inside vent FiPing, SeeFigure 5,
7. Insert vent pipe through thimble/opening from
outside and join to vent system. Apply sealant
between vent pipe and opening/thimble to provide
weatherti ght seal.
Air Intake piping'See Figures 4 and 5'
8. Locate air intake tcrmiMtion on the same wall as
the vent termination if possible, to pre't/ent nuisance
boiler shutdowns. Howwer, boiler mav be installed
with vertical venting and sidewall combustion air
inlet or visa versa, if installation conditions do not
allow altemate arrangement.
