BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works) review and approval,
a Planning Department review or Health Depafinent review, and a review by the BuiHing Department, the
estimated time for a total review will bke as long as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above mentioned maximum
requirements. Residential and small projecG should take a lesser amount of time. However, if residential or
smaller projects impact the various above mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these
projects may also take three (3) weeK to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as possible.

PUBLIC WORKS AND THE PUBLIC WAY PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Building Permits:
Fill out the attached check list with the Buildinq Permit Aoolication.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a "Public Way" permit is required. You can pick up an
application at either Community Development, located at 75 South Frontage Road or Public Works, located at
1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verify (locate) respective utilities prior to signing
application, Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to schedule a locate.
A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper. An approved site plan
may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work
zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.). This plan will o<pire on November 1$ and will need to be resubmitted
for consideration for approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width and depth of work).
This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the job.
Submit completed application to the Public Works office for review, If required, locates will be scheduled for the
Town of Vail electricians and irrigation crew. The locates bke place in the morning, but may require up to 48
hours to perform.
The Public Works Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or deny the permit. You will be
contacted as to the status and any requirements that may be needed. Most permits are released 48 hours of
being received, but please allow up to one (1) week to process.
As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Department will be notified, allowing the "Building Permit" to be
released. Please do not confuse the "Public Way Permit" with the "Building Permit".
NOTE: The above process is for work in a public way ONIY. Public Way Permits are valid only until
November 156. A new Public Way Permit is required each year if work is not complete. Re-
application each November 15th does not mean an automatic renewal.

The Town of Vail Building Department has developed the following procedures to ensure that new construction
sites have adequately established proper drainage from building sites along and adjacent to Town of Vail roads or
streets,
The Town of Vail Public Works Department will be required to inspect and approve drainage adjacent to Town of
Vail roads or streeb and the installaUon of temporary or permanent culvefts at access points from the road or
street onto the construction site. Such approval must be obtained prior to any requests for inspection by the
Town of Vail Building Department for footings, temporary electrical or any other inspection. Please call Leonard
Sandoval at970-479-2198 to request an inspection from the Public Works Depaftment. Allow minimum of 24
hour notice.
Also, the Town of Vail Public Works Depaftment will be approving all final drainage and culveft installation with
resulting road patching as necessary, Such approval must be obtained prior to any Final Certificate of Occupancy
issuance.

Unlawful deposits: Subject to subsection C thereof, it is unlawful for any person to litter, track or deposit, or cause to
be littered, tracked or deposited, sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, or any other debris or material upon any
street, sidewalk, alley or public place, or any portion thereof,
Notice; Abatement: The Director of Public Works may notiff and require any person who violates or causes another
to violate the provision of subsection A hereof, or who has in the Director's employment a person who violates or
caus€s another to violate the same, top remove such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice or any other debris or
material within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of said notice by the Director of Public WorK, In the event the
person so notified does not comply with the notice within the period of time herein specified, the Director of Public
Works, or other authorized agent, may cause any such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, debris or any other
material to be rernoved fiom any street or alley at the expense of the notified,
Summons and Penalty: As an alternative to the notice for removal provided in subsection B above, any person
who violates or @uses another to violate the same, may be issued a summons to appear before the Municipal Court of
the Town for said violations, and upon being found guilty of a violation hereunder be punished as provided in Section
1-4-1 of this code.
Notace and Penalty: It is unlaMul for any person to fail or refuse to comply with the notice of th€ Director of Public
Works as provided in subsection B hereof, and any such person shall, in addition to payment of the expense of removal
incurred by the Director of Public Works, as provided in subsection B hereof, upon being found guilty of a violation

INTRODUCTION:
on February 15th, 2007 aninspection/survey was conducted and 6
bulk samples were collected from:
The Residence
1785 Sunburst Drive
Vail, CO.
The purpose of the inspectior/survey was to locate and sample
suspected Asbestos containing materials that might be present in the area of
the Building that is planned for Renovation.
The inspection was made, and the samples were collected by John R.
Peterman, an A.H.E.R.A. and State of Colorado Certified Asbestos
Inspector. Great care was taken during the inspection and sampling to be as
accurate as possible. It should be noted that minimai damage was done to
the existing building structures during the inspection so there is no
documentation for unseen conditions or stored items.
AII samples were analyzed by DCM Science Lab in Wheatridge, CO.
This laboratory is deemed'?roficient" in the E.p.A.euality Assurance (eA)
program for the determination of asbestos in bulk materials, and is
accredited by the American Hygiene Associarion (AHA).
SAMPLING PROTOCOL:
A random sampling scheme was used to sample the suspect materials that
were discovered. If during any future demolition or renovation work,
suspect material is discovered that hasn't been sampled and would be
disturbed, work should be halted until the material has been tested.

RENOVATION AREA DESCRIPTION:
The Residence at 1785 sunburst Drive is planned for selective renovation
involving the interior and the exterior walls. The exterior wall is concrete
with stucco on the outside, and sheetrock on the inside; and in painted
concrete. The interior walls are sheetrock with a troweled on texture. The
ceilings are sheetrock like the walls. The floors are bare concrete, carpet,
and ceramic tiles.
CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS :
Laboratory analysis, of the bulk samples, indicates that no Asbestos was
detected in any of the bulk samples.

with our proposed changes to the entry stair and lower level. Demolition notes are included on the
previously approved drawings. Included with the application is the review fee of $50.00, a cut sheet for the
chandelier, and photographs of the existing stair, The new window on the south elevation is a Pozzi C-

This structure has been designed to meet the requirements of the 1991 Uniform Building Code with
amendments as adapted by the Town of Vail.
All omissions or conflicts between various elements of the working drawings and/or specifications shall be
brought to the attention of the Structural Engineer before proceeding with any work so involved. The
Ceneral Conffactor shall verif all dimensions and conditions at the job site and shall be responsible for the
means, metiods, techniques, sequences and procedures associated with this project. Furthermore, he shall
be responsible for coordination ofall work and materials including those furnished by subcontraclors. The
Structural Engineer shall be contacted during the construction phase to make the job site inspections
necessary to confirm that the actual field conditions are consistent with the design assumptions and that the
construction is proceeding according to the plans and specifications.

This wall design is based upon an assumed bearing capacity of2000 psf.
The height of the existing wall shall be extended by drilling and epoxy grouting #4 dowels @ 32" on
center. These dowels shall penetrate a minimum of 6" into the existing wall and shall extend to within 4"
ofthe new top of wall. They shall be embedded in the mortar and stone.
All concrete to attain a compressive strength of3000 psi in 28 days.
All reinforcing bars to be Grade 60.
All masonry block units shall conform to ASTM Specification C90, Grand N [minimum f m= l350psi].
All mortar shall conform to ASTM Specification C270, Type S.

ENCROACHMENT AGREEMENT

State oflColorado, hereinafter referred to as "District".
WHEREAS, Properly Orryner(s) is/are presently the owner(s) of certain reai
property described as
and
located in Eagle County, Colorado;
WHEREAS, the District is presently in possession of an easement "?d feet in width,
running through the aforementioned properr.v, which easement is described on Exhibit A,
attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference; and
WHEREAS, Property Owner(s) desires to construct a permanent strucnue that will
encroach upon the described easement in an area approximateiy d / x az d / . said
encroachment being described on Exhibit A and
WHEREAS, the easement is an active easement presently in use by the District.
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the coverumts and promises herein, the parties
hereby agree as follows:
1. The District shall permit the permanent structure to encroach upon the
aforementioned easemenr.
2. The Property Owner(s) shall indemniff the District from the costs of any repairs
to the Distict's utility lines which may occur as a result of the construction of the permanent
stnrcture over and upon such easement.
3. The Property Owne(s) shall hold hamrless the District from the cost of repairing any
damage to the stmcfire, which damage may be caused by the installation of new utility lines in this
easement, or by a break in present and future utility lines of the District, or by the repair of such
break by the District or by other maintenance of the lines.
4. The Properry Owner(s) shall indemniff the District from any increase in the cost
of construction of any new utility lines or in the cost of any repairs to the District's utility lines,
such increase, if any, due to the proximity of the permanent strucfiire to the utility lines'
5. This Agreement shall bind the successors and assigns of the Property Owner(s),
and shail be appurtenant to and deemed to run with and for the benefit of the aforementioned
property in Eagle County, Colorado until such time that the Distict abandons said easement.
This Agreement shall be recorded against said property in accordance with the laws of the State
of Colorado.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF the parties hereto have caused this Agreement to be executed
as ofthe day and year first above written.

amendments as adapted by the Town of Vail.
All omissions or conflicts between various elements of the working drawings and/or specifications shall be
brought to the attention of the Stmctural Engineer before proceeding with any work so involved. The
General Contractor shall verif, all dimensions and conditions at the job site and shall be responsible for the
means. methods, techniques. sequences and procedures associated with this project. Furthermore' he shall
be responsible for coordination of all work and materials including those fumished by subcontractors. The
Structural Engineer shall be contacted during the construction phase to make the job site inspections
necessary to confirm that the actual field conditions are consistent with the design assumptions and that the
consBuction is proceeding according to the plans and specifications.

This wall design is based upon an assumed bearing capaciry of2000 psf.
The height of the exisring wall shall be extended by drilling and epoxy grouting #4 dowels @ 32" on
center. These dowels shall penetrate a minimum of 6" into the existing wall and shall extend to within 4"
ofthe new top ofwall. They shall be embedded in the mortar and stone.
All concrete to attain a compressive strength of3000 psi in 28 days.
All reinforcing bars to be Grade 60.
All masonry block units shall conform to ASTM Specification C90, Grand N [minimum fm=l350psi].
All monar shall conform to ASTM Specification C270, Type S.
