AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 6 OF THE ORDINANCES OF THE TOt~IN OF VAIL, 1969 SERIES, ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE t "UNIFORM BUILDING CODE" 1967 EDITION: CHAPIGING CERTAIN REQUIRE- MENTS FOR CONSTUCTION: AND SETTING FORTH DETAILS RELATING THERE,- T0. G7HEP.EAS, the Board o.f Trustees for the Town of Vail adopted ORDINANCE N0. SIX (6), Series of 1969, on the 12th day of May, 1969, which duly adopted by reference the '°Uniform Buidling Code", 1967 Edition, and the "Uniform Mechanical Code", 1967 Edition, regulating the construction, alteration, repair, removal, demolition, equipment, use and occupancy, location, _••°~ maintenance of buildings and other structures areacted in the Town of Vail, and matters related thereto; and, WHEF:EAS, The Board of Trustees has considered certain amendments to the "Uniform Building Code", and finds that it is necessary and proper to make certain changes set forth in the provisions of said Building Code; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT OP.DAINED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOG~N OF VAIL, COLORADO, THAT: 5eetion`l.`Section 1305 (a) of the Uniform Building Code, 1967 Edition. shall be amended by deleting said section and substituting therefore the following: "Light and Ventilation. _'111 guest rooms, dormitories, end hahitah~_e rooms within a dwelling unit shall be provided with natural light by means of windows or skylights with an area of not less than oiie-tenth of the floor area of such rooms with a minimum of 12 square feet. All bathrooms, water closet compartments laundry rooms, and similar rc,oms shall be provided with natural ventilation b_y means of windows or skylights with an area of not less than one-tenth of the floor area of such rooms with a minimum of 3 square feet. Not less than one-half of the required window or sky- light ar~aa shall be openable to provide natural ven- ti.lation. In lieu of openable windows for natural ventilation, a mech~.nical ventilation system may be provided. Such system shall be capable of providing two air changes i~er hour in all guest rooms, dormitories, habitable rooms, and in public corridors. One fifth of the air supply shall be taken from the outside. In bathrooms, water closet compar-tJnents, laundry rooms, and similar rooms a mechanical ventilation system connected directly to the outside, capable of providing five air changes per hour, shall be provided. For the purpose of determining light and ventilation requirements, any room may be considered as a portion of an adjoining room when one-half of the area of the common wall is open and unobstructed and provides an opening of not less than one-tenth of the floor area of the i.nter3_or room. or 25 square feet, whichever is greater. Required windows sh~311 open directly onto a street or public alloy or a yard or court locted on the same lot as the building. EXCEPTION: Required windows may open into a roofed porch where the porch: 1. abuts a street, yard, or court; and 2. has a ceiling height of not less than 7 feet; and 3. Has the longer side at least 65 percent open and unobstructed. • ~ r ~• Section 2. The Board of Trustees find that this or- dinance is necessary to protect the public health and welfare; that this ordinance shall become effective upon its introduction and adoption and shall be published in accordance with the laws of the State of Colorado.
