Box 2012 Vail, Colorado 81658 Subject 413 Gore Creek Drive Remodel Vail, Colorado Dear Chas: As you know I have rwiewed the structural implications of the modi:ftcations you are rnking to the above noted residence. This is a summary of my findings. Only two items will require a new struchral elenrent. One is the central beam line which zupports the second floor joists. The other item is the steel lintel that will be required wer the new south window in the lower level. The second flmr beam will replace the existing beam on the same line and clear span ftom the stair wall to the outside wau (approximatety l7{"). This beam should be a triple I 314 x ll 7/8 micrelam or a 5 l/8 x 12 glue-lam. Support this beam with four studs at each end. The new lintel over the windorry in the lower level block should be one of the following stelangles:6 x6 x 5/16 or6 x 4 x 5/16 or 5 x 5 x 7/16. This lintel should bear a minirmrm of 4" at each end. Grout the cell below the bearing solid. Attach the lintel to tlrc wall at each end with a 3/8* diameter by 4" eryansion bolt. The longer leg should be the vertical leg if you choose to use the 6 x 4 x 5/16 angle. Please give me a call ifyou have any questions regarding this matter.
